Claytonia species- Pink Purslane and Spring Beauty
Both of the species on this page are garden escapes but they are widely naturalised.
Claytonia sibirica Pink Purslane is more widespread. It has 5 pink or white petals, with darker veins, well-notched, at least twice as long as sepals. Has many very long-stalked leaves from the base, and just two unstalked and opposite stem leaves. All are somewhat fleshy.
Claytonia perfoliata Spring Beauty is a very distinctive plant with the stem leaves fused around the stem.
