Matricaria species - Pineapple Weed and Scented Mayweeds
Matricaria discoidea - Pineapple Weed
A common weed of farm tracks and streets. The finely divided leaves can be confused with Tripleurospermum inodorum. However the flower of Matricaria discoidea smells of pineapple when crushed.
Matricaria chamomilla - Scented Mayweed
This has a mild pleasant scent.
The flowers are smaller than Tripleurospermum inodorum Scentless Mayweed and are more branched.
The bracts behind the head are yellowish green with narrow scarious margins of the same colour.
The yellow receptacle in the middle of the flower is markedly conical and hollow.
The white ray florets quickly relfex back.
There is a Scentless Mayweed which belongs to a different family.
