In flower, this is unmistakable, the checkerboard pattern looks 3D and it's dark glamour is so distinctive.
The flower 3-5 cm long, is chequered light and dark purple, but can be white. Possibly it is native in England, but planted or escaped in Lanarkshire.

The stems arise from a bulb. It is 30cm tall, with most leaves arising singly from the stems. There are usually 3-6 and are < 20cm long and an 1cm wide, flat or U-shaped with a hooded, acute tip.
